Back From Vacation 1/3/00
Mike Hudack Editor-in-Chief
Well, here we are. It´s y2k all over again, and everything looks fine. I went on a semi-unannounced vacation for about two weeks over the holidays, and OSAll has still been chugging along with only a slight decrease in visits. Yay!
A combination of Lego Mindstorms, a new shredder and a cellular fone made Christmas well worth the stress, and a new job with a security company can´t hurt either.
New Job
I´m working with a company called Knowledge Propulsion Laboratories, a New Jersey-based firm which specializes in research and development. I´m working with a team of planners and programmers to deploy a Freedom-like application for both individuals and corporations.
The extraodinarily cool little program features a combination of a pseudo-firewall proxy system. The new company being formed off of KPL is called Gematria, a take-off on the Bible Code (no, not of the book). The Bible Code I speak of is a number-substitution cipher that was used to obscure the names of cities and individuals.
Not only that, but I´m doing a little contract work for a company called Argo Electronics, based on Canal Street in New York. They deal in surplus electronics and computers, including an entire Bell Atlantic switching hub. If you´re interested in any of this stuff, either e-mail me or call me at 203-243-6181 (my cell phone. Please don´t abuse it).
The Drawing -- Four New Books
In addition to my new job I had the pleasure of giving away four volumes, two each of _Building Internet Firewalls_and _Computer Crime_ from O´Reilly & Associates. Thanks to O´Reilly and congradulations to the winners!
I also managed to secure some hardware for a future giveaway, look for it in the next few weeks. I´m considering whether to make it a contest or a giveaway -- whatcha think? |
