OSAll Taken Down 1/10/00
Mike Hudack Editor-in-Chief
OSAll was removed from its´ servers at Communitech.net some time on either Friday or Saturday in the first week of January, 2000. Because Communitech.net refuses to explain the reasoning behind the shutdown we must rely on conjecture, which is explained below.
At the moment we are exploring the possibility of a lawsuit against those responsible for the shutdown, including Communitech.net.
Why was OSAll shut down?
There are several hypotheses on this subject, ranging from JP Vrasenevich of AntiOnline to the Federal Government. The more likely of these two is JP, who has complained about the sites on numerous occasions, primarily because of Shun AntiOnline, which is hosted on OSAll. In addition, Frank Jones of Codex Data Systems had reason and means to shut OSAll down.
Is OSAll up & running again?
Yes. Many sites, particularly NWO.net have offered to host OSAll. Right now NWO.net and RadiusNet are hosting mirrors of OSAll, with a potential permenant home at NWO.net.
What's OSAll?
OSAll is a leading computer security news and methodology Web site, specializing in breaking news. Following Hacker News Network and Security Focus, it is the leading infosec news source for professionals, but by providing both news and methodology it is in something of a class in and of itself.
Who edits and writes for OSAll?
Brian Martin, Rick Forno, NFSG, Attrition.org and many other sites and people have contributed in some way to OSAll. Mike Hudack, head technology officer of Gematria Technologies and former host of ParseTV, edits it.
Has OSAll received media coverage?
Yes. OSAll has been featured on such networks as CNN and Fox News and has been mentioned and quoted in articles in US News & World Report, PC World and several other well-known publications.
How much space and bandwidth will OSAll require?
Twenty megabytes of space will be required to host the bare-bones OSAll Web site, with more necessary for file archives and e-mail. File archives are hardly a necessity, however. Bandwidth varies, but because most of the Web site is text-only bandwidth requirements are limited.
