A Correction On "An Electrifying Hoax"
Mike Hudack Editor-in-Chief
Reuters reported on a "computer hacker" calling a Belgian newspaper with the threat, and not a Danish newspaper. The Danish newspaper just reported on it afterward.
The original story, published on the 29th of September, was put online in response to the Reuters story. It was meant to provide a little perspective not available in any other articles -- specifically that this person was not a hacker. The story ended up making OSAll (and myself) look relatively foolish for such a silly mistake, however.
In addition we should have linked to the original Reuters story rather than simply mentioning it.
WeŽd like to thank Theijan of Help-Net Security for bringing this mistake to our attention. HeŽs a Belgian, so he ought to know.
As per OSAll policy this correction has been issued with similiar (but not identical) prominance as the original story. Whenever an issue of errata is brought to our attention we immediately investigate it and issue a retraction or correction if nececssary.
In addition, it should be noted that we did receieve conclusive proof of "John" and his FBI actions. These proofs included logs and a bit more and have passed muster with several people who have agreed not to discuss them (as I have). |
