FBI Declares War
Mike Hudack Editor-in-Chief
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has begun what appears to be a war against hacking, at least according to recent reports. It has been confirmed that FBI agents raided various members of gH and currently has members of other groups under intense surveillance. And in an interesting twist, there seems to be a list of hackers going out to ISPs, at least according to AntiOnline. Fascinatingly, many of those on the list are simply IRC nicks -- in fact, some of them are simply bots.
According to OSAll´s sources, icbm, mosthated, loophole, spacegoat, soulblazer, fryz, vallah and Clops have been raided by the FBI. According to an OSAll source inside the FBI, however, raids will be continuing for quite some time.
Tomorrow, OSAll will be contacting the FBI public relations department to ask about a `directive´ posted to AntiOnline. The `directive´ lists the IRC nicks of several known hackers, along with the names of several bots.
This war on hackers is coming directly after several well-publicized uses of hackers by the government. In fact, hackers have been working for CIA in destabilizing the Yugoslavian government for several weeks now. In similar fashion, hackers working for NSA have been probing government networks searching for vulnerabilities. Of course, the government is saying that these are the "good" hackers protecting society from the "bad" hackers.
The fact is, however, that I have yet to meet many "bad" hackers. Most of those busted by the FBI were decent people, as are the people on the so-called directive. In fact, mal_vu (an IRC bot) is an especially friendly soul.
OSAll will know more about the FBI "war" in the morning when offices actually open up. In the mean time, consider this a hastily-thrown-together article to keep up with the news while we´re still sleeping. Please don´t take offense to any poor writing or the like. |
