"Y2k, all hype, all the time."

Army Says Logistics Computers Y2k Compliant

Mike Hudack
Editor-in-Chief

The US Army has announced that its logistics computers are Y2k compliant.  Logistics computers have been almost as large a worry as those responsible for weapons systems because an army without ammunition and gas may as well have no weapons in the first place.

The Defense Department has announced, however, that "[DoD] will be ready to support the soldier and military infrastructure in year two thousand."

According to the DoD, they have about 1,069 logistical computers.  Those computers process more than two and a half billion logistical movements per year.  Today (Wednsday) the military finished testing those systems and delared them Y2k-repaired.

The DoD also hastened to add that missile systems, along with other weapons, require human action before launching -- and as such aren´t a real risk when Y2k comes along.  They weren´t so sure about Russian systems, however, saying that they were something of a concern.
