Clinton Authorizes CIA to Hack
Mike Hudack Editor-in-Chief
Newsweek, Reuters and Wired have reported that President Clinton has authorised the CIA to "diddle with Milosovicīs bank accounts," through the use of computer hacking as one official told Newsweek. Newsweek says that they have read part of a top-secret Finding authorising such action.
Since this news surfaced, OSAll has spoken with several US officials, including one at the National Security Agency. According to OSAllīs source at NSA, "the Finding specifically authorised so-called cyber war."
This development is fascinating given recent revelations about Chinese computer warfare. Reports indicate that China has a group of dedicated personnel scanning and hacking US computer networks. Given the Finding, we can now assume that the United States is taking a similar tact to warfare.
As computers begin taking over warfighting, the world is beginning to adapt with countermeasures. We can only assume that in any future conflicts, the US will have teams of security experts disrupting enemy communication and warfighting abilities. |
